The Laguiole knife is a style of knife, originating in the small village of Laguiole in the Aveyron département in Southern France. Originally designed in 1829 by French blacksmith Pierre-Jean Calmels, the distinguished shape was most likely influenced by the Moorish-Hispanic clasp navaja knife, typical of the Andalusian region of Spain. The distinctive design features of the Laguiole knife are steeped in history.
