Capes are a very important part of the superhero culture. They give the wearer an added identity and often serve as a way for the superhero to escape the public eye. For example, Batman has a cape that he constantly wears, so whenever someone asks him who he is, he knows that his identity is protected by the Batcave Batphone. Most other superheros don't have such a luxury.
Capes also allow iconic heroes to fight crime while in costume. The Batcomputer in Batman's Batmobile was originally a cape that had the ability to manipulate time. In the most recent continuity reboot, the Batcomputer was replaced with a floating Batcomputer. This allows the hero to enter the scene of a crime in a BatMobile and immediately begin crime fighting while being almost invisible to the criminals.
Other iconic superheros have their own versions of a superhero cape too. Iron Man's armor is almost exclusively white, although various different colors and designs are available. The Hulkbuster suit is a red and black jumpsuit that has a huge protruding crane on the side. It also comes equipped with a great deal of tools, including hydraulic claws and a force field that is strong enough to repel bullets.
