Starting the Montessori Approach from a Young Age

The Montessori approach to education began with an Italian lady called Maria Montessori who noted the kind of activities the children she worked with preferred and developed theories and a different kind of learning from those observations. She saw that children had a much higher sense of pride and satisfaction when they completed tasks they had chosen themselves, and their love of learning was stronger. Even from the earliest ages children become focused on one area and want to explore that and those periods present opportunities for further development. This is how true Montessori schools have become so popular and is one of the best schools Rockingham has.

Child-centered classrooms

The classrooms in a Montessori school, Perth, are devised to offer the child an environment in which they can carry out their independent learning with guidance from the teacher or director and materials and equipment as they need it. Three parts make up the classroom, the director or directress aka the teacher, the environment prepared to meet their needs and the child. Equipment is self-correcting and attractive and the director facilitates new activities, materials, and acts as a guide.

Children might work alone or they might work in small groups but they work at their own speed as the director observes them, checks on their progress, offers help where it is needed and encourages them in their interests and activities. In other Rockingham childcare options, there is competition, but with Montessori, a child focuses on their own learning, no-one else.

The pre-school programme

The Montessori school Perth, the pre-school programme spans three years from the ages of three to six. As the children are more able to explore their environment so the programme allows for that. In the first year, the focus is on the sensorial apparatus in connection with the practical world. Children learn how to better function in school and at home too. They refine those skills as they prepare for concepts like language and math work.

The second-year parents sometimes feel there does not seem to be much outward development after the large strides made in the first year. But that is not the case. This is the year where the foundations are made stronger and there is more exploring and creativity. Then in the third year, they come to the culmination of their time at one of the best schools Rockingham has to offer. The skills and concepts come to the forefront, you see the children developing a love of learning that you do not see at other Rockingham childcare options.

Socially your child will have more confidence, may even have developed the beginning of leadership qualities, be more caring to others and have a stronger sense of responsibility. They are able to interact with peers as well as younger and older children.
